#4. Explain the significance of the friendship with Gordy for Junior. Maxim
Junior is very lonely with all that has happened lately. Rowdy hates him, Penelope doesn't care about him a lot and he is a freak at school. Junior thinks that Gordy and him have a lot in common so he asks Gordy to be friends. They are both smart, they are both looked at as freaks in the school. To Junior this isn't the same friendship he had with Rowdy but he looks at Gordy with respect and he likes to be with him. Also, Gordy is his first real friend at Reardan so he means a lot to Junior so they study together and Gordy teaches Junior things. Overall Gordy is a very important friend for Junior and get along together.

I agree with Maxim that Gordy provides a safe haven for Junior and he helps him through school. One thing that I noticed throughout this chapter is that although they rely on each other a lot, Junior hasn't replaced Rowdy with Gordy. I expected this to happen and I expected that Junior would be desperate for a friend to spill out all his secrets to, become as close as brothers, and to spend time with each other 24/7, but neither Gordy nor Junior is helping or encouraging this to happen. "And so we did become friends. Not the best of friends. Not like Rowdy and me. We didn’t share secrets. Or dreams" (Alexie 94).
